Instructions for Chairs

Please find below guidance notes which have been compiled to ensure the successful running of the online sessions.  These notes will be updated so please check back periodically for updates.

  • Please make sure you have consulted the programme and are aware of the date and time of your session. We ask that you are available for the whole session, and that you join at least 10 minutes before the session starts to run through any last-minute technical issues.
  • The chair of the session is responsible for introducing each talk and moderating the questions from the audience. Questions will be asked via the chat and participants will also be able to virtually raise their hands.
    • Typed question via the chat: Please read out the name of the attendee followed by the question
    • Verbal question via the hand raise functionality: a hand icon will be displayed in the participant window - please read out the persons name and ask them to unmute themselves to ask their question.
  • It is up to the chair to make sure the speaker does not go over their allocated time.
    • Invited Talks – 40 minutes (35 minutes talk + 5 minutes Q&A)
    • Contributed Talks – 20 minutes (15 minutes talk + 5 minutes Q&A)
    • Lightning Talks - 5 minutes (3 minutes talk + 2 minutes Q&A)
  • The full programme of talks will be hosted across parallel Zoom sessions.
  • If you have any questions during the session, you can message the conferences team and/or the other speakers via the chat box privately. The team member responsible for your session, will introduce themselves to you before the session starts.
